Lay Pastoral Ministry 2018

Paul Mason - Sunday, October 07, 2018

The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference recently launched important document Lay Pastoral Ministry 2018 – Faithful Stewards of God’s Grace at the Proclaim Conference in Brisbane.

The document is a foundational resource for those of us involved in Lay Pastoral Ministry and formation here in Australia, and this includes Pastoral Music Ministry. For those who are familiar with Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord from the USCCB, this can be viewed and understood as an Australian equivalent to that helpful and comprehensive document.

Some sections of the document are of particular interest to pastoral musicians:'

P 27 Christian Vocation of Discipleship

P 28 Vocation to Ministry

P 30 Lay Pastoral Ministry

P 34 Discernment and Formation

P 35 Authorisation: Certification and Appointment

As we listen to to what the Spirit is saying, it is important to reflect on the opportunities this document opens up.

Paul Mason - Tuesday, August 21, 2018

PLENARY COUNCIL 2020 – LISTEN TO WHAT THE SPIRIT IS SAYING

All around Australia people are engaging in the Listening Process in preparation for Plenary Council 2020. There are some simple but important things you can do right now.

Visit the website www.plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au which provides great resources that will enable individuals and groups to learn more, pray for guidance, commence dialogue and subscribe for regular updates.

The Diocese of Wollongong have prepared a song for the plenary and made it available for free download at powerofthespirit.dow.org.au. Performed by Michaela Rose, Seth Harsh and Fiesta Mataele (members of the Catholic Youth Ministry in the Diocese of Wollongong), with John Lappan on violin, and composed by Paul Mason, the song can be used in Listening Sessions in parishes, schools and other faith communities. It also may be used in Masses for Entrance, Song of Praise and Sending Forth.
